This is Gabriella’s first time choreographing on people other than herself and her friends — and certainly on women who are singing! Between breathwork, storytelling, formations, dancing and long hours there is a dream coming true for this Bat Sherut from NJ. She is immensely grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful project and a loving, theatrical family!
Adding choreography to an already immensely successful and exalting music track is always a privilege and a challenge, but one that Gabriella Friedman has humbly chosen to embrace. Gabriella believes that dance at its core is embodied storytelling and has incorporated it accordingly into David the Servant King! She takes on the role of director of movement!
Using movement to create meaning onstage, whether passing time, dreaming, expressing solidarity and love, mourning, or performing, dancing plays a key role in David the Servant King. Gabriella chose to draw on many different dance styles when creating the pieces onstage. The 13 dance/movement numbers in the show are a blend of Lyrical, Ballet and Jazz, containing ancient eastern styles, traditional Chasidic dance, traditional Jewish Yemenite dance, and elements of Hip Hop and Street Dance, all with a Musical Theatre undertone!
Each incredible song certainly calls for something different and exciting! Gabriella’s focus on formations, timing, levels and acting cues within the movement creates a dynamic experience for the viewer, and her dedication to emotional expression and storytelling warps the audience into the experience, deepening the emotional encounter.
